Research summary

Martin joined LISER in 2020 as a postdoctoral researcher within the Crossing Borders team. He is an applied economist working at the intersection of development, history, and cultural economics. In his research, he explores questions such as the short and long-term consequences of migration for human capital, the impact of emigration on gender equality, the diffusion of cultural norms, etc. He adopts a mixed approach, combining historical with contemporary administrative and survey data, exploiting a broad range of empirical methods, and relying heavily on insights from other social sciences such as history and anthropology. Martin holds a Ph.D. from the Paris School of Economics (2020) and was a visiting scholar at the Economics Department of Harvard University (2018). Prior to his Ph.D. studies, he worked at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (United Nations) and at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
