Third wave on Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS) in Luxembourg is underway

The Central Bank of Luxembourg (BCL) and LISER launch the third survey on the financial and consumption behaviour of households in Luxembourg.

The third wave of the Luxembourg Household Finance and Consumption Survey (LU-HFCS) began in February 2018. Over the next few months, close to 8000 households in Luxembourg will be contacted and asked to participate. The fieldwork period is expected to last at least until the end of August 2018.

About the survey

The HFCS is a joint project of all of the national central banks of the Eurosystem, the central banks of two EU countries that have not yet adopted the euro, and several national statistical institutes. The survey’s first wave took place in 2010 & 2011 and the second wave between 2013 & 2015.

Purpose of the data

The aim of the survey is to collect information on financial behaviour of households in Luxembourg such as consumption patterns, savings, and credit demand. The data obtained from the survey will allow decision-makers to understand the current situation of households and formulate policies to support households. The results of the HFCS survey will feed both academic and policy-oriented research.

LISER to come knocking

Selected households will receive an introductory letter and leaflet, which explains the purpose of the survey and details of the interview procedure. The survey is conducted face-to-face with a specially trained LISER interviewer who will first contact the persons concerned from February to August 2018. All interviewers can be identified by their interviewer's card with a photo. Their identity can also be verified with LISER (either by phone at 58-58-55-260 / -263 or by email at: hfcs@liser.lu).

Interviewers have followed a general training on conducting surveys as well as specific training for the current investigation. They have an obligation to strictly respect the confidentiality of the information collected and their work is regularly monitored by LISER officials. The data collected is used solely for scientific and statistical purposes and is treated confidentially.

If your household is selected we kindly ask you to participate. A high participation is essential for the quality of the results.
