LISER organises an International Conference and a Workshop in Athens, Greece

A contribution to the strengthening of the social dimension of the EU involving participants from 29 countries.

Athens, Greece, 20 April – The “Third Network for the Analysis of EU-SILC” (Net-SILC3), which gathers experts from nine European Statistical System (ESS) bodies and eight academic bodies, organised two key European events on 18-20 April. Kindly hosted by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) and organised by the Net-SILC3 coordinating body (Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research [LISER]), these events brought together participants from 29 countries.

The first event was a best practice workshop entitled “Assessing and improving the validity and comparability of the EU-SILC income, own consumption, health and housing variables”. It was followed by an international conference on “Comparative EU Statistics on Income and Living Conditions”.  The papers presented at these events will contribute to the development of EU social statistics and indicators as well as to the strengthening of the social dimension of the European Union through improved social monitoring and robust statistical analyses.

Net-SILC3 is funded by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat). It builds on a solid foundation of previous EU networks coordinated by LISER (esp. Net-SILC1 and Net-SILC2). Launched in 2016 for a period of four years, Net-SILC3 carries out in-depth methodological work and socio-economic analysis and develops common tools and approaches regarding various aspects of data production for the whole ESS. In the next two years, it will organise another international conference as well as three additional best practice workshops.
