COLLABORATION
Labour Market
28 AUG 2025

Strengthening global labour economics research and policy engagement | The Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) is proud to announce that the IZA Network, one of the world’s foremost communities in labour economics, will join LISER as its new institutional home starting January 1, 2026.

The transition secures the uninterrupted continuation of IZA’s flagship initiatives, including the IZA Discussion Paper Series and IZA World of Labor—widely recognised for providing high-quality research and accessible, policy-relevant insights. Signature events such as the IZA Summer School, specialised workshops, and the visiting fellows program will also remain central pillars of the network’s activities.

Founded in 1989, LISER is an internationally oriented, multilingual research institute employing more than 200 staff from over 30 countries. Strongly embedded in Europe’s research ecosystem and policymaking environment, LISER collaborates closely with EU institutions, universities, and policymakers. Its location in Luxembourg and strong ties to Germany make it a natural host for expanding IZA’s global reach.

In a joint statement, LISER CEO Aline Muller and IZA CFO Martin T. Clemens underscored the importance of the transition:

“Our top priority is ensuring the continuity of the network’s valuable contributions to labour economics and related research fields.”

They also highlighted the broader purpose behind the move:

“In a time of growing challenges to academic freedom and evidence-based policymaking, we aim to uphold a beacon for open, collaborative, and impactful social science research in Europe and beyond.”

With LISER’s leadership, the IZA Network is poised not only to safeguard its established programs but also to broaden access, strengthen its European policy role, and continue shaping public debate with cutting-edge labour research for years to come. By welcoming the IZA Network to Luxembourg, LISER reaffirms its commitment to advancing cutting-edge labour research, strengthening dialogue between academia and policy, and ensuring that rigorous evidence continues to inform public debate for years to come.
