Motivation

Building upon the success of our first workshop in Montréal, this second workshop focuses on the intersection of sensor-based health research and privacy-preserving techniques. As mobile and wearable sensors become increasingly prevalent in health monitoring and research, there is a growing need to address the unique privacy challenges these technologies present while maximizing their potential for personalized healthcare.

The collection of continuous, high-resolution sensor data offers unprecedented opportunities for understanding health behaviors and environmental exposures. However, this data collection raises substantial privacy concerns, particularly regarding location tracking and potential re-identification. This workshop aims to bridge the gap between experts in sensor-based health research and those developing privacy-preserving technologies.

Our primary objectives are to:

  1. Facilitate knowledge exchange between sensor-based health researchers and privacy technology experts
  2. Demonstrate practical implementations of privacy-preserving techniques in health research
  3. Identify specific challenges and solutions in protecting privacy in sensor-based studies
  4. Strengthen the international collaboration network established during the first workshop

This workshop represents the second of two workshops jointly funded by the Government of Québec and the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).

Format and Program Highlights

The workshop will be held over two days and will include:

  • Keynote presentations on cutting-edge developments in both sensor-based health research and privacy protection
  • Technical demonstrations of privacy-preserving methods and federated learning approaches
  • Interactive sessions focusing on specific use cases and implementation challenges
  • Group discussions on best practices and future directions
  • Networking opportunities with international experts
