Alessio Fusco holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France). He has joined LISER in 2005 as an assistant professor in the IMPALLA programme. In 2008, he moved in the Living Conditions department where he was appointed head of the 'Income, Wealth and Poverty' research unit in 2013. Between early 2017 and mid 2018, he has held the position of acting Head of the Living Conditions Department.

His research interests are on applied microeconomic topics related to the analysis of inequality, poverty and social assistance and on the measurement of various concepts such as multiple deprivation, income polarization or social polarization. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Economics Letters, Economic Modelling, The European Journal of Health Economics, The Journal of Economic Psychology, The Journal of Happiness Studies or Research on Economic Inequality.

He is currently the Principal Investigator of the project 'Investigating the Mechanisms of Reliance to Social Assistance' (IMeRSe) funded by the Luxembourg National Research Funds (FNR). Previously, he has been in charge of another FNR-funded project on 'the dynamics and persistence of poverty in Luxembourg' (PersiPov) and he participated to several EU-funded research projects about the measurement of material deprivation in Europe (Net-SILC) or the impact of growing inequalities on the society (GINI).
