Javier Olivera is a researcher in the department of living conditions at LISER and full professor of economics at Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (PUCP). He is also affiliated to the department of economics at KU Leuven. He holds a PhD in economics from KU Leuven, MSc in economics from the University of Essex and BA in economics from PUCP. Prior to his actual position, he was a research fellow at the Institute for Socio-Economic Research at the University of Luxembourg, and the Geary Institute at the University College Dublin (UCD). Before his academic career he has worked for more than 5 years at the Superintendent of Banking, Insurance Companies and Pension Funds and the Ministry of Economy of Peru. He has been involved in advisory work for pension and social protection reform in Peru, Ecuador, Honduras and Paraguay. He has taught as an invited professor at postgraduate and undergraduate level at KU Leuven, UC Louvain, University College Dublin and PUCP. His research interests include public economics, socio-economic inequality, pensions, intergenerational transfers, old age and economic demography.
