Andrea Albanese is a researcher in the Labour Market Department of LISER and IZA affiliate.

His research interests are Labour Economics and Applied Microeconometrics with a focus on causal analysis and counterfactual impact evaluation. His papers have been published in Labour Economics and Economics Letters. In 2017 he won a research grant as principal investigator of 468,000 euros funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR). In 2016 Andrea Albanese won the VisitINPS Fellowship at the research department of the Italian Social Security Institute (INPS)  and was awarded the prize for the best PhD thesis for the academic years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 from AISSEC (Italian Association for the Analysis of Comparative Economic Systems). In December 2015, he completed a joint PhD programme at DEFAP Graduate School of Milan (Italy) and Ghent University (Belgium) under the supervisor of Prof. L. Cappellari and Prof. B. Cockx. The doctoral examination committee was composed of Prof. M. Lechner (University of St. Gallen) and Prof. M. Leonardi (University of Milan). His PhD thesis assessed the effectiveness of active labour market policies implemented in Belgium and Italy.  During his studies he has won research fellowships from the Italian National Institute for Social Security (VisitINPS), the Flemish Government Research Funds – BOF (joint PhD studies) and Fondazione Cariplo (Master’s thesis abroad).
