Abstract

While digitalization is not new as such, its rapid and extensive impacts transform deeply many aspects of life, including work and employment. Both very pessimistic and optimistic scenarios about the future of work predict the end of working as we know it. The objective of the lecture is first to present and critically discuss the theoretical debates in sociology related to the digitalization of work and employment. Second, methodological challenges to sociological research on digitalization are addressed. Practical exercises on the research of digitalization impacts on concrete sectors are included.
