CHILDCARE closing workshop: Optimal policies in the market for childcare: theory and empirical evidence

Over the last decade, improving access to affordable and high quality childcare has received growing attention from both policy makers and academics as an instrument to help parents, especially mothers, to reconcile work and family life, promote child development and equalize opportunities among children. Yet evaluations of these policies are still not clear about the effect on maternal and child outcomes. The CHILDCARE project provides additional insights on the impact of childcare policies and analyzes the childcare market to assess the desirability and optimality of alternative policies.

The closing workshop of the CHILDCARE project will bring together a panel of renowned international scholars to present and discuss some of their latest research in this field. One focus of the workshop is the design and impact of early childhood interventions with respect to family choices, such as fertility, childcare and labour supply.
