Speaker
Katarzyna Potęga vel Żabik
Head of the Research Department at the Copernican Revolution Lab, the research and develop-ment branch of the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw
Her work brings together participatory research, informal learning, and large-scale data collection in real-world environments. At Copernicus, she has played a central role in developing the Living Lab model, an approach in which visitors to the science center actively take part in scientific stud-ies while engaging with interactive exhibits. These settings allow researchers to collect rich, multi-modal data on learning, collaboration, and human behavior in ecologically valid conditions, mak-ing the Copernicus Living Lab one of the most advanced examples of this approach in Europe.
What is particularly compelling in her work is the way research is embedded directly into public space. Visitors are not only audiences, but participants, contributing to experiments in real time. This creates a hybrid environment where science communication, education, and empirical re-search are closely intertwined. The Living Lab thus becomes both a site of engagement and a methodological innovation, enabling the study of how learning and interaction unfold naturally, at scale, and across diverse populations.
