LISER recently collaborated with the National Health Observatory (ONS) on its new report, 'Gesond Gesellschaft duerch Präventioun' ('Healthy Society through Prevention'), which was presented on 28 January. Using a dynamic microsimulation model calibrated for Luxembourg, LISER assessed the long-term health impact of reduced tobacco consumption following a price increase. The analysis shows that sustained reductions in smoking could lower the future prevalence of major smoking-related chronic diseases among people aged 50 and over, including respiratory illnesses, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and stroke. These results highlight the importance of robust prevention policies in enhancing population health and alleviating Luxembourg's chronic disease burden.
Scientific evidence from LISER underpins Luxembourg’s first National Action Plan against racism and discrimination.
