LISER’s Climate Mobility Model drives evidence-based policy to tackle climate-driven mobility and poverty in the Greater Caribbean.

The Greater Caribbean is one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions, where rising risks threaten to uproot communities, deepen poverty, and reshape migration patterns. The Greater Caribbean Climate Mobility Initiative (GCCMI), launched in 2022, is charting a new path for climate-resilient development in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions. By addressing the urgent challenge of climate-forced displacement and migration, the Initiative brings together governments, international organizations, and research leaders to co-design comprehensive, locally anchored solutions.

At the core of this effort is the pioneering work of our LISER team under the umbrella of the Policy Lab and CAIPD. In collaboration with Columbia University, a team led by Michal Burzynski developed the Climate Mobility Model and its CliC:ME dashboard version — a breakthrough tool that not only projects how climate risks will shape mobility and poverty in the region but also translates these insights into actionable, evidence-based policy recommendations.

The final GCCMI report is now available, featuring a visual synthesis, an interactive data explorer, and an actionable agenda designed to support safe mobility pathways and resilient community transitions.
