Workshop on “Migration and Politics: Current and Future Challenges”

The Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER), in collaboration with leading researchers from the Departments of Economics of Bocconi University and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, are organizing a workshop on the theme of "Migration and Politics: Current and Future Challenges". This workshop serves as a component of the EUFIRST project, which receives funding from both the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) and the Belgian Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS). The primary objective of EUFIRST is to deepen our understanding of the intricate interdependencies between migration flows and politics. Possible topics include: the factors that shape voting responses to trade and migration, the specific determinants contributing to the rise of left-wing and right-wing radical and populist voting, the political dynamics arising from the emergence or growth of radical parties and their potential impact on the political agenda of traditional parties, the reverse causal effects of populism on the scale and skill content of migration flows, which may potentially lead to the formation of vicious circles.
