Skill mismatch concerns half of the workers
Having the right skills is essential in order to gain a firm foothold in the labour market and increase a country’s productivity. In July 2020, the European Commission launched a new strategy to give workers the right skills. In Luxembourg, the government developed a Skills Strategy as part of the coalition agreement for the 2018-2023 period. This strategy should help to create a better match between workers’ skills and the needs of the labour market.
Employment of older workers well below the European average
In Luxembourg, in 2018, 40.5% of the people aged between 55 and 64 were still working. In this respect, the Grand Duchy is lagging behind the great majority of other EU countries.
More older workers in companies
The share of workers aged 50 and over has more than doubled over the past 25 years (11% in 1994 compared to 25.5% in 2019). This phenomenon affects all companies, whatever their size.
